The cost to support one girl member of courage, confidence and character for one year is $543.00.

It’s hard to place a price tag on the value of our programs and the life changing benefits felt by our girls, but the facts have shown that it costs $543.00 to support one girl member of courage, confidence and character for one full year. Without the financial support of our donors, our organization would not be able to do what it does and be able to have a positive impact on generations of girls. You can help be a part of that impact.

Where does the money come from?

Nominal fees are charged for our programs, but these fees are subsidized to a great extent in order to make our programs – including summer camp – affordable for ALL girls.

These subsidies come from product sales (like the Girl Scout Cookie Sale), Girl Scout Shop sales and from philanthropic donations – from individuals, civic groups, corporations and private foundations.

Philanthropic effort help us provide camperships to girls who could not otherwise afford to attend camp as well as provide financial assistance to girls who need help purchasing books, uniform pieces and membership dues.

It also allows us to maintain communications with parents, girls and volunteers, provide volunteer training, maintain our properties and facilities, and purchase camp equipment like canoes and tents.

Philanthropic donations – including grants, corporate contributions, special events, and donations from many individual “Friends of Girl Scouting” – help cover the council costs that product sales, camp fees and program fees do not cover.

When you compare the costs of other girl activities, like dance, soccer, ice skating, and music lessons, Girl Scouting is a remarkable bargain. Each girl is only required to pay $25 each year: $15/year national membership dues and a $10 council service fee.

This month we are thrilled to share a very special, Girl Scout thanks to former GSSNE CEO, Jan Feyler and former GSSNE staff member Lianne Pinheiro for helping to continue the legacy of the Virginia Moss Newhall Fund for urban programs. Over twenty years ago, two of our council’s greatest volunteers and supporters, Virginia Moss Newhall and Betty Cugini, started a fund that has made a difference in the lives of thousands of girls who participate in Girl Scouts of Southeastern New England’s Urban Outreach Programs.
