Hard Work Earns Troop 602 a Trip to the Big Apple!

We are super proud of Junior Troop 602 from Middletown for expressing their "go-getter" spirit in the most ideal G.I.R.L. way possible!

These innovative Girl Scouts started planning their Big Apple trip to NYC in April 2016 and made decisions on how the trip would be funded. They used their 2016 and 2017 cookie sale proceeds AND the 2017 Fall Product proceeds. Knowing that they would need additonal funds, they also used proceeds from a virtual race they created as well as money from helping owners wash their dogs at an establishment called Pet Valu --all to help fund this once in a lifetime trip!

They stayed at the HI International Hostel and enjoyed visiting the Empire State Bldg, a water cruise past the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Museum of Natural History, Madame Tussauds, Central Park, NBC Studios and Top of the Rock! They worked hard for the trip and had a fabulous time!

But don't take our word for it...let's hear from some the Troop members directly!

"I really am impressed with how much our money got us...showed me what planning and hard work can do for you. My favorite thing in New York was the NBC were able to walk around and see where some amazing shows are filmed. I haven't seen SNL (YET!) but it was really cool seeing the set and where it's made. I really enjoyed the train ride because it was nice to walk around and sit with all of my friends!" - Kyla

"The planning was really fun and getting to hear about other people's stories of their trip to NYC. The fundraisers were fun too. My favorite activity in NYC was Madame Tussauds-especially making our own wax hands!!!! I also really enjoyed the surprise limo ride (a treat from our leader), especially since we hadn't planned it! It was an amazing party on the go!" - Jordan

"It was a great experience for me because it was my first time seeing New York City.  I liked the wax museum best because it was really fun.  Because it took a year of planning and fundraising, we were in a shock because we didn't think we would make it!" - Bridget

"I had a wonderful experience in New York City with my amazing troop. Overall my favorite part was all of us getting our own wax hands! If Lilly was there too that would have been exciting for her, but she wasn't sadly. But the very best part was that I got to go on an eye bulging trip with my troop friends!" - Evelyn

"I LOVED the Limo and the Empire State Building and the cruise best.  Although my trip to the M&M store was a big hit too.  I really enjoyed the hostel because we got to share rooms with our friends and no parents!" - Lilly
