Researcher for a Day: Hematology - (C, S, A)

Through the preparation and staining of blood slides, identification of individual cells and the determination of cell functions, students will discover how the components of blood can be used gain information on an animal's health. This workshop demonstrates fascinating real-time applications of both immunology and hematology in the diagnosis and treatment of illness. Registration includes admission to the aquarium.

Please ensure an adult is registered alonside your individual Girl Scout or Troop as this is not a drop off program.

Can you solve the crime? Who did it? Come learn how a forensics team assess a crime scene and even practice collecting fingerprints!

Thinking ForWARD - (B, J, C)

This program is hosted by ForWARD, Electric Boat’s Women’s Employee Resource Group. This is a community enrichment event for local Girl Scouts to support both personal and educational development in the self-health and STEM arenas. ForWARD is working to mentor local girl scouts and help them earn “Think Like an Engineer” and “My Best Self” badges by participating in STEM activities and experiments related to boating, buoyancy, and submarines, and a life skills lesson/workshop related to physical and mental health - finding health helpers, learning how your body works, healthy eating and play, and more. There will be time for participants to tour the Nautilus Museum at the end of the program.

This is not a drop off event.

Snapology Animation Studio - (J, C, S)

MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED

Date: Sun Feb 19, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM EST

Create amazing movies with stop motion animation using LEGO® bricks. Children will work in teams to produce their very own movie complete with dialogue and sound effects. Movies are uploaded to a secure site for family and friends to see how cool they are!

This is a drop off event

Newport Seal Harbor Cruise - (C, S, A) 2-20-23

MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED

This 1 hour cruise introduces girls to our winter visitors The Harbor Seal as they explore the surrounding waters for a look at these beautiful animals in their natural habitat. Girls are introduced to why we have a perfect resting spot for Harbor Seals, their adaptations and the Marine Mammal Protection Act.

Snapology Incredible Inventions Robotics - (J, C)

MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED

Do you enjoy inventing new things? Learn about the process real inventors go through while you help design, build and program robotic models to solve problems using LEGO® bricks and robotics. Are you the next Thomas Edison? Learning is enhanced through use of laptops.

Audubon Whales CSI - (C, S, A)

Date: Sat Mar 11, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM EST

Participants will take a "deep dive" and learn all about whales! They will discover how whales and dolphins are classified, and explore whale biology and anatomy. Students will also have the opportunity to perform a mock necropsy on the large-scale whale model in the Audubon Society aquarium!

ASHI National Babysitting Certificate (CSA) - 3-15-23

The American Health & Safety Institute’s new Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) program gives teenagers and young adults everything they need to know for safe and successful babysitting. The course provides a 2-year national certification.

The American Health & Safety Institute’s Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) program gives teenagers and young adults everything they need to know for safe and successful babysitting. This is a blended course requiring a 3 hour online component followed by a 3 hour, hands-on classroom component.The course provides a 2-year national certification.

Women in Trucking Patch Program - (J,C,S,A)

Women In Trucking has teamed up with the Girl Scouts to offer a fun-filled event to learn about the trucking industry and earn a patch! The girls are able to participate in fun, hands-on activities related to supply chain, hear from women leaders in the industry, and even climb inside the trucks. 

ASHI First Aid/CPR/AED - (C,S,A) 4-27-23

Date: Thu Apr 27, 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM EST

This course prepares Girl Scouts grades 6 - 12 to respond to an emergency situation through basic first aid, CPR, and AED. Attendees successfully completing this course will receive a 2-year national certification.
