Troop Trips Training 11/8/2021

Troop Trips training is required for all leaders planning indoor overnight trips (including council-sponsored museum overnights). The course covers council standards, paperwork requirements, and planning tools. Please note, overnights at a campground require a different training:  GSSNE's Troop Camp Training.

Open to all Adult Volunteers

Certification in First Aid/CPR is required for at least one adult accompanying troops/groups on trips or overnight outings; it is recommended for all other troop activities.  The GSSNE course offers a two-year certification from the American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI). 

Youth Mental Health First Aid

Date: Sat Nov 13, 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM EST

Sometimes young people don’t realize that they are facing a mental health challenge, or they feel embarrassed asking for support. That’s why it’s important for adults to learn how to support teens and offer help. In this Youth Mental Health First Aid class, you will learn a five-step action plan that will enable you to provide assistance to a teen until professional treatment is obtained or until a crisis is resolved. Completion of this course results in a three-year Youth Mental Health First Aid certificate.

You are REQUIRED to complete two hours of an online, self-paced introduction before the November 13 session begins. These materials will be sent three weeks before the November 13 session.

Webinar time of 9:00am-3:00pm on November 13 includes a 30-minute lunch break and smaller breaks.

Pre-course materials and a Zoom link will be sent prior to the program.

Boston Bus Trip

Troop Camp Training is a comprehensive training consisting of three components:  an online component, a 3-hour classroom session, and an overnight session at GSSNE's Camp Hoffman.  Attendees are required to successfully complete all required components of this scheduled training IN FULL.  Covid safety guidelines will be followed for all in-person components.  Attendees are encouraged to bring their own tents for the overnight portion. 

Wilderness First Aid Certification

MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED

Date: Sat Apr 30, 8:00 AM - Sun May 01, 3:00 PM EDT

Required to take a troop on a hike, a backpacking trip or to an off-trail camping site which is more than 30 minutes from 911. This ASHI course (American Health and Safety Institute) is a 16-hour comprehensive certification course that covers a wide-range of rescue scenarios. The course will be taught over a weekend at a GSSNE camp; the fee covers meals, training materials and manuals. Certification is for two years.

Hiking Date: May 21, 2022

Build your hiking confidence on a TBD hiking trail in central or southern RI with experience hikers and backpackers. Practice packing and carrying a backpack properly, navigate trails, and work with your group to make it through successfully. Location will be determined by the group at the planning meeting and will be dependent on the weather, group size, and skills. Must have completed Hiking 101 and 102 previously.
