The Girl Scouts mission is to build youth of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.
Girl Scouts is a leadership development program designed to help youth discover their personal best and prepare for a positive future, connect with others in an increasingly diverse world, and take action to solve problems and improve their communities. The Girl Scout philosophy of leadership says that for youth to become leaders they need to: Understand their values and use their knowledge and skills to explore the world (Discover); Care about, inspire and team with others locally and globally (Connect); Act to make the world a better place (Take Action).
Girl Scouts of Southeastern New England (GSSNE) serves all communities of Rhode Island, thirteen in nearby Massachusetts, and Pawcatuck, Connecticut. Our membership outreach prioritizes youth in underserved communities, youth of all racial/ethnic groups, and youth with special needs. This year, we are on track to serve over 4,000 youth in all 53 of our communities.
Because of our large service area and diverse membership demographics, we believe that GSSNE is perfectly positioned to provide long-term, safe, inclusive learning spaces for girl-identifying and gender-expansive youth whether they live in Providence or Burrillville. Through training supports, we develop membership and programming strategies that scaffold all of our members towards equity and inclusion.
